ALTO stands for Alternative Operators in the Communications Market. Established in 1998 to represent the interests of new operators entering Ireland's telecoms market, ALTO has become the voice of the telecoms industry, representing national and international operators in the fixed, wireless, mobile and cable sectors.

ALTO has achieved considerable success in improving market conditions for its members and building a stronger telecoms sector for the benefit of consumers, businesses and industry.

ALTO is a company limited by guarantee with each member effectively acting as a shareholder with the right to appoint a director to ALTO's board.

ALTO represents its members with regulatory authorities and policy makers such as the government, the EU, the Comreg and the Competition Authority to ensure a competitive and fair business environment in which members can operate successfully. Members also benefit from effective intelligence gathering on current and future legislative and regulatory developments.

Through meetings, seminars and conferences, the organisation provides a forum through which members can raise and discuss issues affecting their business.

Unified lobbying by ALTO ensures these issues are addressed with policy makers, other interested parties and the media, for the successful development of the entire industry.

ALTO also produces policy documents which stimulate debate and influence policy formation in key industry areas.
